Top 5 Reasons I Love Teaching Boot Camp

Forgive me for the absence but I didn’t realize how much work there is to do when your husband breaks an ankle.

Since Brad is still not able to walk, drive, or do much other than sit on the couch and keep his leg elevated (darn fractured fibula) I’ve been teaching class, working, shuttling kids hither and yon, cleaning, cooking, running various errands for Brad, grocery shopping as well as keeping up with the house plus tackling the fun chores that my darling husband normally does; trash, watering the yard, killing spiders, etc. Needless to say, I’ve been a bit tired and by 8pm I’m literally crawling away from the chaos and going to bed.

I have, however, been teaching class and would like to take a second to tell you the top 5 reasons why I love teaching my boot camp class.

5.  At 5:30am the gals are working it.   Hard.

4.  Breaking a sweat before the sun goes up is (almost) better than coffee.

3.  Watching my class perform a perfect pushup.

2.  The looks I get when I announce it’s “Minute to Win It” Day.

And the number 1 reason I love teaching my boot camp class……

1.  When the class is over and someone tells me it was worth it to get up early

Cleaning up a dietary mess

I do some sort of exercise daily and consider myself to be pretty fit and overall  healthy.  Listen, it’s not a secret that it takes discipline to be consistent with a fitness program.  For me, this is not a problem.

I enjoy being able to go for a killer, hilly run, play soccer with my team, do tons of pushups and hold a plank for long periods of time.  (This may seem like I’m bragging but hold off on the judgement, you’ll see why in a minute).

However, being fit and healthy is not just about exercise.  What you choose to put in your mouth is also a huge factor.  Some experts say that it’s the most important factor.  I’ve heard you should eat well 90% of the time and allow for 10% of less than healthy eating.

And therein lies the problem.  I very healthfully about 70% of the time.  The other 30% is kind of a disaster.  I’ve fallen into some bad and lazy eating habits over the past few years.

So my goal right now is to tighten up on the summer snacking and get back to healthier habits.

My cranky pants are on…

My darling hubby fractured his fibula and pulled tendons while we were on our camping trip so he’s in a cast for 3 weeks.  It’s a non-weight-bearing cast so he’s basically on the couch until early August. Then he’ll be put into a regular cast so we have a few months of hobbling ahead of us.  I mean him.  Poor Brad.

With hubby on the DL, I’m chauffeur, cook, maid, nurse, mom, gardener, lawn mover, trash taker-outer, pool sweeper all in one cute little package.

I need a run but haven’t been able to get one.  In addition to having Brad down for the count, I developed a nasty head cold that has moved to my chest so I’ve been sniffling, coughing and feeling very under the weather.

And as you can probably guess, this makes me very displeased.

Tomorrow, I will teach class (I cancelled Wednesday because I felt that bad) and I’ll go for a slow run on Saturday.

And  next week my workouts will be back on track and I’ll be able to tend to my family’s needs with a smile.  Or at least a smirk.
